August 4, 2016
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope you are enjoying the final days of summer. School is approaching quickly and I would like to invite you to another exciting year of learning, discovering, and fun. As you enter our doors, we want you to feel the excitement we have for learning. We are determined to deliver outstanding instruction, and we will create a school where safety, respect, accountability, support and excellence are highly evident. As we begin another school year, I wanted to make sure you have the proper information you need to make the transition back to school easy for everyone.
Back to School Night
We will be having a Back to School Night Open House on August 23rd from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm. We would like to invite you to attend this open house where you can explore your classroom and meet your teacher. Please feel free to stop by the office and meet with me. Carrie will also be available to answer any questions or help you update you information on Aspire.
First day of school
School will be starting for all students, including Kindergarten and Preschool, August 24th. The daily schedule for grades K-5 is the same time as last year with school beginning each day at 8:05 am. The front entrance will open at 7:50 am. Please do not send your student to school before this time. School will dismiss Monday-Thursday at 2:50 pm, and
12:05 pm on Fridays.
There will be two sessions of preschool offered. One session will be on Monday/Wednesday and the other session will be on Tuesday/Thursday from 8:05 to 11:05. Preschool is offered to all students who will be four by September 1st. Younger students will be eligible if they qualify through special education. Tuition will be $200 for the year. Mrs. Jan Brown will be sending home additional information regarding preschool.
Enclosed you will find classroom placement assignment for kindergarten. Kindergarten will be two optional full day sessions. All students qualify for all day kindergarten. If you prefer half day kindergarten for your student a form will be available for you to fill out at Back to School Night. Full day kindergarten is scheduled for the same time as the regular school day listed above. Your student will ride the regular bus along with the other elementary students. Half day kindergarten will be Monday- Friday from 8:05 to 11:05. The bussing schedule will vary depending on where you live. Your teacher will provide more information regarding transportation. If you have any questions on optional full day kindergarten, please feel free to contact you child's teacher or myself.
Class placement assignments were mailed with student report cards at the end of the school year. A class list will be posted on each teacher's door at Back to School Night. An effort was made to ensure the classes were balanced both academically and behaviorally. If you did not receive your teacher placement, please contact myself, or Carrie via email and we will get back to you.
We will continue to communicate electronically with you through email and text. You can also check our Facebook page and school website.
School Community Council
We are looking for some new members for our School Community Council. If you are interested in serving, or would like to nominate someone, please notify the office no later than August 31, 2016. We will hold elections in September.
The PTO consists of parents and teachers working together to enrich all students. They support school staff, help promote student self-esteem, and assist in efforts to solve the school needs through volunteering and funding. We invite you to join the PTO for the 2015-16 school year. More information will be sent home at the beginning of the school year.
I highly encourage you to become involved in your child's education by volunteering or visiting the school when you have time. We would like you to have a positive feeling when you enter our doors. We are part of a community, made up of incredible children and adults, with a common purpose. We hope you will take the opportunity of visiting often.
STEAM -Title I
We are committed to provide a great school experience through a well-balanced approach. We provide foundational instruction in the core areas of language arts, math, and science. As a STEAM school we integrate classroom instruction in science, technology, engineering, art, music, and math. This year we will be implementing school-wide STEAM projects one Friday a month. We are also a Title I school which allows us to enrich our learning with a wide variety of tachnology and resources. We have SMART boards and iPads available in all classes. As a principal, I am happy knowing the students exiting our school at the end of 5th grade are very much ready for their next level of education.
I'm excited to work with your amazing students and talented individuals who make up our faculty and staff. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer and I look forward to meeting all of you!
